Willie Peters' honest Hull KR verdict as players told to take accountability after Wakefield loss

Willie Peters has called on his Hull KR players to take accountability after their wretched showing against Wakefield Trinity on Saturday. The Robins were well beaten at Craven Park, losing 20-6 after failing to get over for a try against the West Yorkshire outfit. They struggled with errors and discipline throughout, with Peta Hiku being sinbinned in the first half and a couple of dissent calls going against them as well. Ultimately, though, Rovers missed the opportunity to go third in the Super League table and they are now at serious risk of surrendering their spot in the top six altogether in the coming weeks as others hit form. Peters was visibly livid after the game and he made his feelings known to the press. "I'm very disappointed," Peters said after the game in east Hull. "It's something we need to look at. "Players need to be accountable, staff need to be accountable. The scoreline said it was 20-6 but I'm not bothered about the scoreline, I'm bothered about performance and that was a really, really poor performance. "We got back at half-time to 6-6 and we had a lot go against us in that first half. We had an opportunity in that second half with a bit of wind behind us to put some pressure on them but we didn't do that. We were on the back foot the entire time and it was our doing. "We came up with errors, ill-discipline, yellow cards, penalties with the ball three times, it hurts. "I've just let them know where I think we're at and I'm honest with them. We've had a few performances like that and that's the concerning part. Credit to Wakefield, they played well, simple but effective." Rovers' ill-discipline dogged them for much of the contest and Peters addressed that concern. "If a player says something back to a referee then it's always been the case because you can't talk back to the ref," he said on the dissent calls. "I need to find out what was said. "You can't do that but on the other hand I don't think I've seen three penalties for dissent. The decisions are not my concern, I'm not too worried about it. I'm more concerned with improving my team because that was a really poor performance."
