Argentina or Switzerland await the winners of quarter-final showdown in Miami

The World Cup 2026 quarter-finals continues as England face Norway in Miami tonight. The Three Lions are slight favourites to reach the semi-finals, where holders Argentina or Switzerland will lie in wait at the Atlanta Stadium. England are looking to build on their fine last-16 win over Mexico at the formidable Estadio Azteca, having stepped things up after delivering a few less than convincing performances across the World Cup so far. Declan Rice and Marc Guehi are expected to start for England despite fitness concerns and Reece James' availability is welcome news for Thomas Tuchel amid a crisis at right-back with Jarell Quansah suspended following his red card - which cannot be appealed - against Mexico. This will be the first ever meeting between these two nations at a World Cup and the Norwegians will fancy their chances of springing another major upset after toppling Brazil en route to reaching a maiden World Cup quarter-final. The Norway squad features a number of Premier League stars, including Erling Haaland and Martin Odegaard. England vs Norway latest news Live updates Today's settings The Miami Stadium (Hard Rock Stadium) stages it's penultimate World Cup 2026 fixture tonight. Whoever wins could be back here next week for the third-place play-off. Konsa tipped for right-back role Former England midfielder Gareth Barry has urged Thomas Tuchel to start Ezri Konsa at right-back tonight. Speaking to Lyllo Casino, Barry said: "All the lads that came on against Mexico did absolutely brilliantly. Dan Burn was desperate to get on that pitch and be part of this England squad, which shows the depth we have. The manager has a few options now, which is good for this stage. “I don't know about Reece James' fitness, but he is a natural right-back. If he isn't fit, I've watched Ezri Konsa closely at Villa. He is more than capable, and the left-winger couldn't get past him at the end of the game. “That shows how solid a defender he is to go from center-half to right-back. Nobody likes being out of position, but I think Konsa is a great option. Whether it's Stones, Dan Burn, or Spence coming in, it's great to have options. “Stones is probably the easiest choice. He came on against Mexico and looked like he'd played the whole game. He was ready, and the same could be said for Spence and Dan Burn coming on during a tough period with 10 men. It's great that he has more than one option to tweak things, not just to start the game but while the game is ongoing. “On the wings, Anthony Gordon is probably the standout. He looks the sharpest and the games seem to suit his pace, causing problems for the opposition. Personally, I don't think Bukayo “Saka is quite 100%. He beat his man for the first goal, which was vital, but he's not quite the Saka we know. The manager needs to assess Saka's fitness and comfort levels. “He looked frustrated coming off, which I think is a good sign. It's good to have options, and that might be one position to change, whereas the three in the middle look solid and are working well together.” England vs Norway latest match odds England to progress: 40/85 Norway to progress: 13/8 Odds via UK betting sites (subject to change). Bryan Robson: Erling Haaland could destroy England Former England captain Bryan Robson quotes fears Erling Haaland could destroy England’s World Cup without Harry Maguire to stop him. He said: “The Norway game is why I would have loved to have seen Harry Maguire in Thomas Tuchel’s squad this summer because I think Harry Maguire would deal with Erling Haaland. “The other lads we have are quick but they’re not as strong as someone like Magire, and Haaland is going to be right up for this game and he’s going to use his strength and other qualities to go to another level because it’s the World Cup. “It’s going to be a tough game for England’s two centre-halves. Harry Maguire would have been the best man for the job.” Head to head (h2h) history and results England wins: 7 Norway wins: 2 Draws: 3 Score prediction This will be a tougher game than many think, especially after Norway’s shock win over Brazil. They have that ruthlessness in front of goal with Erling Haaland, but he does need the service in order to finish those chances. Snuff that out, and the Three Lions could be in business. England to win, 2-1 after extra time. Norway team news Norway are preparing to face England in the World Cup quarter-finals with a near fully fit squad, despite the camp being hit by an illness bug. It was reported this week that some members of the squad had come down with illness due to their intense tournament schedule. But team doctor Ola Sand is adamant the situation is in hand, saying: "All players are healthy now. Very little fuss considering that we have been close together for almost six weeks. We are in control.” Norway squad Goalkeepers: Orjan Nyland, Sander Tangvik, Egil Selvik Defenders: Kristoffer Ajer, Leo Ostigard, David Moller Wolfe, Fredrik Bjorkan, Marcus Holmgren Pedersen, Torbjorn Heggem, Sondre Langas, Henrik Falchener, Julian Ryerson Midfielders: Morten Thorsby, Patrick Berg, Sander Berge, Martin Odegaard, Fredrik Aursnes, Kristian Thorstvedt, Thelo Aasgaard, Antonio Nusa, Andreas Schjelderup, Oscar Bobb, Jens Petter Hauge Forwards: Alexander Sorloth, Erling Haaland, Jorgen Strand Larsen England team news: Triple boost England have been handed a triple boost ahead of their World Cup quarter-final against Norway. Reece James, Marc Guehi and Declan Rice - who had all missed Wednesday’s session - were all back in training on Friday in a boost to Thomas Tuchel. James is hoping to return for the quarter-final after missing England’s matches against Panama, the DR Congo and Mexico with a hamstring injury. Jarell Quansah is suspended for the Norway game after his red card against Mexico. Jordan Henderson was back at the England team hotel, the Inn and Meadowbrook, after surgery on his arm following a freak injury he suffered during celebrations after the 3-2 win over Mexico at Estadio Azteca. He is not expected to have any further involvement at the World Cup but is set to stay with the group for the remainder of the tournament.
