East Kilbride 3 Dunfermline 0: Neil Lennon's Pars stunned as Kilby boss hails 'Premiership-standard' goals

East Kilbride boss Mick Kennedy insists his side scored goals of Premiership-standard as they stunned Championship cracks Dunfermline Athletic in the Premier Sports Cup. Neil Lennon's side came calling at K-Park in the Pars' first competitive game since appearing in the Scottish Cup final against Celtic in May, where they lost 3-1 at Hampden. But few would have predicted they would ship three goals again today as Kilby pulled off the shock of the round in a stunning 3-0 win against a team featuring the Pars' new signings Oli Shaw and Musa Digbaga New signing Lewis McGrattan gave last season's League Two champions the opener after 24 minutes when he swept home after an impressive team move which started all the way back with goalkeeper Shay Kelly. And Kelly would then have two second half assists as his long kicks twice cut right through the Pars defence, first allowing Finlay Gray to loop the ball home in 54 minutes for 2-0, and then Cami Elliott latching on to one to slot the ball beyond Dibaga in the visiting goal. It is yet another cup shock for Kennedy, who famously knocked Aberdeen out the Scottish Cup with Darvel. And he told Lanarkshire Live Sport : "That's a few now, eh? I think it must be 10 cup shocks now. "But while people see this as a shock, I think the players deserve immense credit for how they have played. "It was not a case of us sitting in defending for our lives and catching them on the break in moments. "We dominated the game today in terms of possession and played some beautiful stuff. Some of our goals were Premiership-standard, never mind Championship standard. "Some of our play in general was outstanding so the player deserve immense credit. They stuck to the plan and the strategy all game. For large parts we were exceptional. "We had two of three moments like the move for the first goal which just didn't quite come to anything. "There was some really good phases of play. We got out so many times playing that brand of football, the boys were outstanding. "That was as strong as Dunfermline could have been today. They still have players to come in but everyone knows how fierce a competitor Neil is. It was a proper game of football but we were outstanding. "Neil congratulated us and told us we deserved to win, but in those moments you are not in the best of moods. He knows he came up against a good side today." Asked about Kelly's long kicks twice paying dividends, Kennedy said it was no fluke. "We knew at some point Dunfermline would come on with an aggressive press, so we spoke about it during the week that when their centre-half has to come into the middle of the pitch, when that space opens up, we just go there with one pass," he explained. "That's what we did and we scored two goals off the back of it. That's why the players deserve so much credit because these things don't happen by chance, it is things we work on all week. The boys were brilliant." EK now head to Cove Rangers on Tuesday night for their second game in Group C.
