Southampton should make a swoop for Scottish sensation Robbie Ure to replace the outgoing Ross Stewart

Southampton head into next season with a target on their back following the fallout of the 'spygate', though German head coach Tonda Eckert will be doing everything in his power to ensure his side are as well-placed as possible for another promotion push. A 19-game unbeaten run in the Championship towards the end of the season saw Southampton propel in the play-offs, with a 2-1 aggregate win over Middlesbrough in the semi-finals sending the Saints marching on to Wembley. However, after being found guilty of spying on their opponents, Southampton were expelled from the play-offs, ending their hopes of an immediate return to the Premier League. The fallout ever since has been hectic, with Eckert himself in line for a potential six-month ban, as Southampton pick up the pieces of their mess. The likes of Will Smallbone, Oriol Romeu, Joe Aribo, and Alex McCarthy have all since left the club, but arguably their biggest departure has been that of Scottish international Ross Stewart, after failing to reach an agreement on fresh terms. Replacing the 29-year-old will be no easy feat for the Saints, though they should consider a swoop for his compatriot, currently tearing up the Swedish top flight and on the radar of other European clubs. Southampton should consider moving for Sirius striker Robbie Ure to replace Ross Stewart this summer Stewart joined Southampton in the summer of 2023 for a fee that could have potentially risen to £12 million from Sunderland, but since then, he has only managed 50 appearances across all competitions in three years before his departure. Despite this, when on the pitch, there is no doubting that the Scot massively improved Southampton's side, with his physical presence up top second to none. Canadian international Cyle Larin joined on loan from Mallorca in the January window with an option to buy, and after eight goals in 16 league games, has since joined on a permanent deal and will go some way to replacing Stewart up top at St Mary's. He has been joined by both Daniel Peretz, who joins from Bayern Munich, and George Long, who joins from Norwich City, but there is no indication that the Saints are done in the window just yet. Links to Aston Villa's Lewis Dobbin suggest that Eckert is not done in revamping his attacking options this summer, as Southampton should look to target Scottish striker Robbie Ure to replace Stewart on the South Coast. Ure, 22, came through the youth system at Rangers, scoring prolifically for the Glasgow outfit's youth side. Though having been limited to just three first-team appearances, in which he scored on his professional debut for the Gers, he headed to Belgium to link up with Anderlecht in the summer of 2023. Two years in Brussels yielded just one senior appearance for the club, before heading to Swedish outfit Sirius in 2025 for just £630k, where he has since exploded into life. In 46 appearances across all competitions thus far, Ure has netted 27 times and grabbed a further seven assists, including 11 goals in 11 games this season, with a four-goal haul against Swedish champions Mjallby. As a result, links to former club Rangers have emerged, as well as interest across the continent, with Ure saying: "If I get the opportunity to take my career to the next level, it would be hard to turn down. "The honest answer now is that I don't know about a transfer yet. "There is clearly interest from other clubs and leagues that also interest me. "If you asked any player if they had the opportunity to take their career to the next level and play in a top league, they would obviously be interested." Transfermarkt values Ure at around €5 million, with Sirius set to make a huge profit on the Scot in any case, as with three years left on his current terms in Uppsala, it would take a big fee to lure him away. Southampton can likely afford to meet such demands, and standing at almost the same height as Stewart, would be an excellent replacement for the former Sunderland striker at St Mary's. With 11 goals from an expected goals of just 6.33, as per FotMob, there are valid questions about whether Ure can maintain that level of over-performance in front of goal, especially at a higher level. Though still only 22 and one of the hottest striker prospects on the market right now, Southampton would be remiss not to consider a swoop for Ure, and should look to get a deal done before another top European side comes calling. Do you think Southampton should consider making a move for Robbie Ure this summer to replace Ross Stewart, or should they be focusing their attentions elsewhere? Share your thoughts below! Tonda Eckert mustn't rely on Cyle Larin at Southampton and should consider a swoop for Robbie Ure this summer following Ross Stewart's exit Heading into next season, Southampton will do well to keep opposition fans quiet about the 'spygate' drama at the end of last campaign. Distrust surrounding the Saints' current management will be rife after their involvement in the spying, and Eckert will be at the forefront of the majority of the flak. Eckert will be hoping to silence opposition by proving his worth as a head coach without the advantage of spying, and will need a fit and firing centre-forward to help his case. Whilst Larin, who is coming off the back of a solid World Cup with Canada, has every chance of remaining their starting centre-forward at the beginning of next season, another option wouldn't go amiss, and someone like Ure could push Larin all the way for that spot up top for the Saints.
