Peterborough football club to host two-day football extravaganza in memory of much-loved former committee member

Over the course of Saturday and Sunday (June 11- 12), Thorpe Wood Rangers will be hosting their now annual Stef Barsby Memorial Tournament at the club’s base at Woodlands in Castor. The tournament will comprise of two action packed days of junior football. A total of 60 teams ranging from Under 7s up to Under 14s will take part; with each age groups comprised of six teams. Four girls divisions will take to the pitch on Saturday before the boys get their turn on Sunday and the dedicated girls tournament remains one of the only tournaments dedicated to girls football in the city. The tournament has been named after Stef Barsby, a much-loved club committee member who was instrumental in planning the first ever tournament in 2022 before her sad passing due to cancer. Stef was instrumental in the running of the club, supported the hosting of all of the club's activities, took a keen interest in player welfare and assisted with managing club finances. Thorpe Wood remains a family affair for the Barsbys with Stef former husband Keith the Chairman, Stef’s daughter Jade Club Secretary and her fiance Anton Barrett Club Secretary. Stef’s son Lee plays for the club’s senior team and remain a key figure behind the scenes along with with partner Ellyn. Anton said: “All the final preparations have now been completed and we are really looking forward to welcoming so many people to our club over the weekend. "From the bottom of my heart, I have to thank everyone who comes together to help us organise this tournament. It genuinely means a lot to me, Jade, everyone involved at the club.” A number of local companies have kindly come forward to sponsor age groups and these are: Woodland Group, Holiday Inn West, Virtue Property & Renovations, Nomad International Relocation, Minden Gas Services, Chroma Sport, Oxney Breakers, Peterborough Care and Kall Kwik Peterborough.
